The Tutoring Company is a family business run by a group of parents and educators who are committed to improving the quality of education for California students. Between us we have nine children of our own and over thirty years of teaching and tutoring experience. As experienced educators we understand how students learn and the ways to help them to succeed in their studies. As parents we bring the same level of attention and care to our tutoring business as we do to the education of our own children.

Our Directors

Nathan Vigil received his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and his master’s degree from Emory University. Nathan has published with Cambridge University Press and Routledge Press, given academic presentations at Oxford University and to the American Historical Association, and received scholarships from Princeton University and the US Department of Education. Prior to starting The Tutoring Company, Nathan taught college Writing and History courses for several universities.

Hope Vigil graduated summa cum laude from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs. She earned her master’s degree in Education from California State University, Fullerton. Prior to starting The Tutoring Company, Hope worked as an English Instructor at Cal State Fullerton and an Academic Advisor for freshmen at the University of Georgia.

Betsy Vigil has over thirty years of experience as a learning specialist, teacher, and tutor. Her specific training and specialization is in reading, spelling, and comprehension. Prior to working for The Tutoring Company, she worked as a reading teacher at two private schools for more than ten years and owned her own tutoring business–Betsy’s House. She is the mother of 4 grown children and has helped several of her 7 grandchildren learn how to read.

Our Tutors

At The Tutoring Company we carefully screen all of our tutors to ensure that they meet the highest standards of academic achievement, teaching ability, and personal character. All of our tutors have substantial tutoring experience and are skillful educators. In addition, they all have college degrees from well known  universities or are exceptional juniors or seniors at local universities. Our test prep tutors have complete mastery of the tests that they teach, and our subject tutors are experts in the fields that they tutor.
